‘Heart-warming and spirit-lifting’: Hay-on-Wye recital

Hay Music Trust write a glowing account of Jayson’s recital on 22nd Jan:

Jayson Gillham gave his audience a real treat on Sunday afternoon - a concert programme of huge variety with plenty of the familiar and quite a bit of the not so familiar, including the thrillingly difficult and completely absorbing pieces by Ligeti. Jayson's subtle approach to JS Bach through arrangements by the Romantic composers demonstrated one of his outstanding specialities. There was melting sensitivity in the Debussy Clair de Lunemovement of his Suite Bergamasque and in the Bach/Gounod Ave Maria, and virtuosic panache in the final item of the programme, the Bach/Busoni Toccata and Fugue in D minor.  After the exhausting demands of an extraordinary recital - and enthusiastic calls from the audience - Jayson generously gave us a final Chopin étude by way of an encore: Op. 10 No. 11 in E-flat major. It was a most heart-warming and spirit-lifting event for a cold January afternoon and got our 2023 programme of concerts off to a flying start.
